There are many aspects of planning a funeral that Alfred James can provide. The full list of our services includes:

  • Call the authorities (police, doctor, …..) to inform of a death
  • Trained staff to arrange the funeral during a meeting held in your own home or at one of our Funeral Homes. This can be done on any day of the year. The funeral may be arranged to take place in Adelaide, regional areas, any state in Australia or overseas.
  • Facilities to transfer the deceased to our mortuary 24 hours per day to provide necessary hygienic preparation and dressing of the deceased
  • Facilities and Alfred James expertise for embalming if required
  • Procurement of Death Certificates and Cremation Permit when required
  • Complete registration of death
  • Preparation of documents for the cemetery or crematorium
  • Arranging burial permits for a deceased ex-service person
  • Arranging for certified copies of death registration if required
  • Contacting cemetery and/or crematorium to book and arrange for leasing or opening of a grave
  • Liaising with clergy or civil celebrant, co-ordination of church requirements for all denominations and provision of documentation
  • Contacting lodges, RSL, service and sporting clubs and fulfilling any wishes relating to these organisations
  • Preparation and insertion of all notices in the press (city, suburban, country, interstate and overseas) and radio and television where applicable
  • Ordering of floral tributes for family and friends upon request
  • A special car to transfer flowers to the cemetery/crematorium if required
  • Collection and return of floral tribute cards
  • Transportation of coffin and attendance at any religious service or viewing prior to the funeral
  • An experienced funeral director and trained staff for constant attention and, where requested, to assist as coffin-bearers at the time of the funeral
  • Provision of a hearse and driver
  • Provision or collection of national flag, poppies, last post, acacia, etc.
  • Preparation and organisation of memorial book, memorial cards, hymn sheets and Memory Tree certificate
  • Provision of requested music and audio or video taping of funeral service
  • Booking of professional musicians, if required
  • Provision of folding flower racks
  • Suitable grass matting and lowering device for burials
  • Arranging of canopy and chairs at graveside, if required
  • Use of private viewing room if needed for identification of deceased
  • Provision of advice, assistance and transportation in the disposition of the cremated remains
  • Financing of all additional expenses (hire of limousines, cemetery fee, doctor’s fees, advertising charges, offering to clergy, cremation memorials, freight, etc.) until funeral account is paid
  • Providing either all female or all male attendants at the funeral service if preferred
  • Phones staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by our own highly trained funeral directors who can begin helping you from the very first call.
